Manuel de Falla

The Three Cornered Hat

Il Cappello a Tre Punte, is a ballet choreographed by Lèonide Massine to the music composed by Manuel de Falla at the request of the founder of the Russian Ballets, Sergej Diaghilev.

Throughout the ballet De Falla uses traditional Andalusian music. De Falla works a lot on the recovery of the Spanish musical heritage, so much so that he also includes singing in the score: two cante jondo for mezzo-soprano which was a song, often sad, associated with flamenco; here the same song associated with the castanets and the rhythmic clapping of the hands takes on a joyful character.
